Van users who think fuel cards are just about refuelling are missing a trick, according to Steve Clarke. He said: “A van user should realise that discount fuel is just the first reason for using fuel cards. Having the right fuel cards should open up a wide range of other useful benefits.”
Steve Clarke is well qualified to comment, being marketing manager for The Fuelcard People, a Fuel Card Group company. Their customers can use the fuel cards themselves for a variety of non-fuel purposes, from lubricants to M6 tolls. As customers, they can also opt for CO2Count, the only service offering vehicle emissions reporting to Defra standards, and can apply for the Discount Service Card. This free card offers significant savings of up to 50% on tyres, exhausts, batteries and more.
“Fuel cards are not all the same,” said Steve Clarke, “and nor are fuel card suppliers. Anyone running vans should expect cheaper fuel, with no transaction charges, to be only the start of the benefits. They should be asking their dedicated account manager about this – and if there is not a named individual looking after their account, that is just the first good reason to be switching supplier.”
