Kaba’s new innovative lock cylinder meets the TS007, British Kitemark approved, 1-star and 3-Star cylinder standards.
Despite crime rates falling in many areas of the UK, the emergence of new threats to door security remain a key focus at Kaba, where recent product developments have led to new innovative solutions to counter the threat of ‘lock snapping’, while addressing the need for flexible key systems and acknowledging the importance of recognised industry accreditations and patents.
Kaba’s new pExtra Guard is a product that protects your door from five common types of attack: drilling, picking, bumping, snapping and plug extraction. pExtra Guard has been developed specifically to meet the TS007 3-star standard for lock cylinders and has undergone rigorous testing prior to its full approval to the new standard. To provide a counter measure to, amongst others, the increasing threat of snapping to locks, the cylinder itself features several layers of protection. In particular, the cylinder features a sacrificial break slot, which ensures that in the event of the cylinder being snapped, the core of the lock is retained within the door.
What is the TS007 Kitemark ?*
To protect your door effectively, the Door & Hardware Federation in the UK (DHF) advises that the lock cylinder and door handles on your entrance doors should meet the highest standard, and protect against all these latest forms of attack. The DHF advises both home owners and business owners that their lock cylinders should be upgraded to the TS007 Kitemark standard.
Secured by Design (the Association of Chief Police Officer’s crime prevention initiative) has worked with the DHF and the Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF) to develop the TS 007 standard.

pExtra+ with patented “branch groove”
In addition to the new TS007 approved product, Kaba has launched its pExtra+ cylinder range, the security lock cylinder with extra protection and patent lifetime to 2032. pExtra+ meets EN1303 Key Related Security Grade 6 and is a Kitemark Approved, TS007 1-star cylinder that protects against drilling, picking and bumping. The cylinder features a sophisticated, patented key profile, with a “branch groove”. Duplicate keys cannot be made using commercial key milling machines. An optional blocking pin verifies the presence of the branch groove. If the original branch groove is not detected, the blocking pin prevents the key from being turned completely in both directions.
The pExtra system can be used in all types of cylinders: double, single and thumbturn profile cylinders, furniture locks, padlocks, key switches, camlocks, surface mounted door locks and many more.
