How do you test a proximity key?
The TDB003 Proximity/Smart Key Systems Tester offers a simple and cost effective way to diagnose and test problems relating to the vehicle immobiliser system, which is made up of a number of components.
The TDB003 enables the transponder key, remote control operation, external vehicle antenna transmitters, internal vehicle antenna transmitters and transponder antenna to be fully tested to ensure that all parts of the system are working.
The TDB003 can display signal levels, frequency measurements, signal waveforms and a number of other useful features.
Here is a walk though of the functions:
1. Transponder Test
Detects the transponder is present. If no transponder is detected the key has a fault.
2. Radio Frequency Test
Central locking issue? Ensure the remote is not only sending a signal, but also the frequency is correct!
3. Infra Red test
IR remotes or Mercedes Transponder signals quickly tested and verified. No reading, key is at fault.
4. Proximity Full Test
Quick test to show the communication between key & car. No response from Key means the Key is faulty, possibly flat battery in the remote or key is not matched to the vehicle. No response from car shows a sensor issue.
5/6. Coil Antenna Test
Menu 5 allows an audible sound to be heard when the antenna and key exchange data.
Menu 6 allows a visual bar graph and ability to enhance or reduce the sensitivity
Further Proximity testing
The TDB003 allows further in depth testing of the proximity system. Standalone key response in a line graph allow you to see the response strength to identify a weak key.
Standalone vehicle response in a line graph allow the ability to compare sensor responses. Dual vehicle & key allow the user to ensure the response from the key and sensor peak at the same time. The fast & slow oscilloscope menus with sensitivty control allow the user a fuller diagnostic measurement of the system.
