ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UKI has hosted Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street for a behind-the-scenes tour of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
The Portobello site has been operating out of the West Midlands for many years, employing over 600 people, making up a large proportion of ASSA ABLOY UKI’s UK workforce.
The manufacturing site has seen significant investment over the past decade, and during his visit Mayor Andy Street was given a behind-the-scenes tour which focused on its operational excellence, including product innovation, manufacturing capabilities and investment in sustainability.
ASSA ABLOY UKI is proud of its investment in people and skills and during his visit, Mayor Andy Street met with many members of the operational teams, from apprentices at the start of their career to some of the longest-serving employees.
Mayor Andy Street said: “After having the chance to interact with employees old and new – spanning the spectrum from apprentices to colleagues who have served the firm for many years – I gained a much deeper appreciation for the remarkable heritage of this company here in the West Midlands.”
