“As we learned more about coronavirus and how it was being spread, we realised that as they were a high touch surface, our controlled access door locks could be a potential source of transmission, purely because of the number of people who could be using it in between existing cleaning protocols.
“So, we started looking for a solution to help control and mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and COVID-19 on high touch surfaces, such as door locks, keypads and door handles. One that would be affordable to our clients but also give them peace of mind.
“That’s when we came up with the idea of creating the Cu-Shield for our most popular digital lock designs. Made from a high copper content alloy (>60%), its inherent and continuous antimicrobial action due to the virus-killing power of copper, means that the copper-touch surface never stops killing any viruses and pathogens that are present.
“Designed as a sheath that fits neatly over our most popular digital combination locks, the Cu-Shield can be fitted in a matter of minutes and gets to work neutralising viruses straightaway. We also created a whole lock made from copper for our customers.
“Its distinctive copper colour also distinguishes it from regular stainless steel locks and instantly provides peace of mind to users. Because the antiviral and antimicrobial properties of copper have been scientifically proven over and over, users who see the distinctive Cu-Shield lock know that the potential transmission rate of any pathogens on its surface is greatly reduced to four hours or less, compared to other traditional metals and surfaces where viruses have been known to survive for up to 72 hours.
