What do you think is the best deterrent to stop burglaries on your property?

In a survey conducted by Truedor.co.uk in July 2016, 2,000 people in the United Kingdom were asked what they thought the best deterrent was to prevent burglary attempts on their property.

23% answered with a Burglar Alarm and a further 20% said CCTV.

This is despite data on the UK police’s official website showing that burglars in England and Wales went unidentified in 90% of completed cases between June 2015-May 2016.

Of 397,643 recorded burglaries in England and Wales during that period, 277,300 investigations have so far been completed and no suspect was identified.  79,635 cases remain under investigation.

This data shows that preventing an intruder from getting into your house in the first place may be a more sensible priority over installing technology on your property.

Though only 16% of those surveyed believe that proofing their front door first is the best way to protect their property.

Clive Stewart, Chairman of the Essex County Neighbourhood Watch Association commented:

“There are many households that do not take specific care to lock their UPVC doors sufficiently despite having reminders from the Police.

The Police can only keep up the practice of sending out messages to remind people to protect their own property and also help those who may feel vulnerable.  Then it is up to everyone to try their very best.

It really is up to each person to take this advice and try their best to reduce the opportunity of crime.”
